Javier Benavente Barrón

Javier Benavente Barrón was selected for his dedication to mental and social welfare as President of Alares Group. In anticipation of the emotional impact that isolation would have on people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, The Alares Foundation set up the social program “Ilumina una Vida,” or “Brighten a Life,” a free, 24/7 telephone line elderly people could call for support and active listening from volunteer social experts and psychologists. The service  included accompanying them in person one day a week at their homes as COVID-19 permits. In the first three weeks, more than 10,000 people called in, and more than 500 volunteers took those calls. To date, more than 45,000 people have called in for support. This social program has been established permanently within Alares to address the loneliness of the elderly.
